K. Fellfarers Hut, High House, Borrowdale (Lakes) 23-25th September 2016

We originally booked the bunk house for the weekend, Friday and Saturday nights, but as the accommodation was available the previous week, some of our members we able to get a couple of extra nights going up on the Wednesday and therefore lots more walking.

High House is a superb bunkhouse, located at Seathwaite, accommodating 20 people in two large dormitories, a well stocked and good sized kitchen and comfortable seating area with a wood burning stove for extra cosiness.

Because of the extra days we were able to get more walking in and different groups chose different walks. A total of 15 members attended the event.

Thursday 22nd September

Walked to Seatoller and caught the bus to the top of Honister Pass.
From there climbed Grey Knotts, Brandreth and Green Gable before descending into Gillercomb and Seathwaite.

Friday 23rd September

From Seathwaite climbed directly to Glaramara descending Thorneythwaite Fell to Seatoller and Seathwaite.
David, Martin and Les
Walked to Seatoller and caught the bus to Buttermere.  Ascended Robinson and continued to Hindscarth and Dale Head before descending to Seatoller and Seathwaite.
Chris and Moya
Walked to Seatoller and climbed Dale Head via High Scawdel.  Then a descent to the top of Honister Pass before climbing Grey Knotts, Brandreth, Green Gable and Great Gable.  Climbed back over Green Gable and descended into Gillercomb and to Seathwaite.

The weather was on the whole very good although it was very misty on Saturday morning following rain during the night and very windy on the tops. Again there were a couple of different walks undertaken, those who had arrived on the Friday night opted for a walk up Grains Gill, half the group took the path over Glaramara (783) whilst the rest carried on down Langstrath, meeting back up in the pub at Stonethwaite before returning to High house. A very enjoyable 13 mile trip the weather improving as we went. We had a group meal and a good social evening on Saturday night.

After cleaning up the bunkhouse members dispersed, some directly home, others got in another short walk, I and a few others walked up to Castle Crag where we got some fantastic views down into Borrowdale and a nice cup of tea before taking the motorway home.
